The record for the world’s most expensive number plate is about to be broken. That plate is “F1” and the asking price is at a whopping $20.5 million. Owner of the plate Afzal Kahn, founder of Kahn Design, has listed the plate for sale for the first time in over a decade. With its association to motoring elite’s Formula 1, it is considered to be one of the most coveted plates in the world. The F1 plate was last sported on Kahn’s $1.7 million Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The F1 plate was originally purchased from the Essex Council in 2008 for a mere $575,000 in comparison.

The Essex Council had owned the plate for over 104 years. Kahn believes that he paid much less for the plate than its worth, also claiming he had turned down a pervious offer of £6 million in 2014. The listing for the plate can now be found on Regtransfer.co.uk for a base fee of £12million. After factoring in the Vat and taxes the plate’s final price will be listed at £14.4 million.
If the F1 plate does in fact sell for the listing price it will completely obliterate the current record held by the ‘D5’ number plate. Local businessman, Balwinder Sahani, paid $10 million for the ‘D5’ plate in 2016.
